AVA’S ANGELS ARE WAITING FOR OUR PRAYERS (16 June, 2011)
Ava is 4 years old, and lives in Regina, Saskatchewan. One month before her second birthday, Ava was diagnosed with a rare form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). This is such a rare disease that she is known to be one of only three cases in North America. At the time Ava’s parents listened in disbelief as their doctor told them the terrifying news…words that no parents want to hear. Ava’s life as an active toddler was turned upside down with days full of chemotherapy and numerous blood cell and platelet transfusions. But everyone gained strength from Ava as she embraced a new world and her parents gained strength from God as they saw her go into remission after five treatments. However, dark news is confronting Ava and her parents once again. The doctors have given Ava two weeks to live. This news was given only a few days ago. Humanly speaking, the situation seems impossible. However, the reality is that there is a great battle going on over this child. And there is a spiritual reality that we cannot see, but are very much part of.
“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:10). The words of Jesus himself clearly teach that there are angels always before the Father awaiting his commands for the care of each child. They are awaiting, at a moments notice for carrying out His command. The fact that these words were spoken in the context of Jesus teaching his disciples to “welcome a child in his name” – to pray for and bless the children – is significant (Matthew 18:5). The children’s angels are awaiting a command to intervene on behalf of the children as a result of our prayers or blessing in Jesus’ name. The other passage mentioned in terms of prayer and angels is in the Gospel of John, chapter one. Jesus says to Nathanael: “I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man” (John 1:51). Jesus lesson to Nathanael, was that as we trust in Christ, our prayers in his name are the very stairway for the angels to move from heaven to earth to intervene in the situation or person prayed for. Ava’s angels are awaiting our prayers, our cry’s to the Father in Jesus name, so that they can begin to move and intervene. God will not command anything on earth without our participation. For he has put all things under his Son’s authority, who is the head of the Body, the Church. As the Church prays according to Christ’s will, in His name, the Father commands, and the angels respond. Let’s begin praying with faith, passion and power for little Ava. If you want to fast and pray, even better. Join your prayers to a prayer network that has just been informed in Cuba and in Ecuador. There is a great battle going on over this little one. God wants to reveal his glory to her parents, the church and the community. Let us respond to Christ’s call to bless Ava in his name.
