Ecuador – Stories Of The Power of Prayer

STORIES OF THE POWER OF PRAYER IN ECUADOR

The Divine Prayer Clock movement was launched in Ecuador in March, 2010,  in the city of Ambato with approximately 80 leaders, including pastors. The core prayer leadership team is seen in the photo. These leaders and pastors are committed intercessors in a 24-7 prayer network, and are seeing the evidence of early signs of revival in their city. However, one pastor commented that the existing prayer network is like the chassis of a car, while the Divine Prayer Clock teaching is like the motor that will keep it going.  He noted that one of the struggles of 24-7 networks is the motivation of intercessors over the long-haul.  With the Divine Prayer Clock intercessors are motivated by the  Scriptural teaching on praying 24-7 with specific times and petitions discovered in the texts of the Old and New Testaments. It is this biblical evidence and mandate that energizes intercessors, knowing that they are following in the footsteps of the heroes of the faith in fulfilling God’s call to be a Kingdom of Priests. Since receiving the teaching and experiencing The Divine Prayer Clock they themselves are now teaching it and training others to practice the prayer clock.

On 24 September 2010, the intercessors of the 24-7 prayer network in Ambato gathered together for a 24 hour prayer event.  Their desire was to storm the heavenly realms, and respond to God’s call to pray and give Him no rest with their intercession. The theme verses are Isaiah 62:6,7 “O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.  Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work, until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.” In addition to the 24-7 prayer network, this was the first time that the network was all together for a 24 hour period to intercede and stir hearts with the Divine Prayer Clock teaching. There was a powerful sense of God’s presence as they poured out their hearts to God, crying day and night for revival in the Church, the city and the nation.

A Transformed Bar Owner

And God is at work.  At a recent prayer retreat my roommate (Ramiro) experienced God’s healing presence in an incredible way. Ramiro is a new christian.  He owned the most profitable bar in the city of Ambato, frequented by the most important businessmen, politicians, and celebrities. However, when he came to Christ, the Holy Spirit convicted him that he was to close down the bar.  He was not to sell it. The pressure was felt immediately from family members and friends who could not understand the significant financial profit and lifestyle that Ramiro was willing to give up.  Many left him, friends and family.  But Ramiro was obedient.  During the retreat he told me: “I don’t know if I can handle any more of God’s love. This prayer retreat has been the most incredible experience of my life. Nothing can satisfy and delight like the Father’s love. I’ve tried everything, and there is nothing like this.” Since the retreat God has been waking Ramiro up at 2 or 3 in the morning to be with him and to pray for his marriage, his child, his church and his friends. At first he ignored the call, and went back to sleep until God zapped him with little shocks to wake him up again. He giggled as he told me how God gives him love “zaps” to call him to be with Him.

A Gang Member Changed By The Love Of The Father

Another that I met at the retreat was Giovanni.  A young man who had been in one of the gangs in his town, and very violent. The reminders of a fight could be seen as part of one ear was missing, the result of a knife fight. But Giovanni also discovered the love of his Father God.  Giovanni has never had a father at his side. But in the retreat he experienced a love that he never knew existed.  He chest heaved as he cried out, releasing the pain and the deep inner wounds of loneliness and rejection that went far deeper than any knife wounds. And God did a healing work in Giovanni over the four days of the retreat.  By the end of the retreat it was clear, the great weight had been lifted. A transformation had taken place.  Giovanni’s face reflected the rediscovered innocense of a little boy secure with his Father’s love and acceptance. Giovanni also understood the call to prayer.  It was a call to come and enjoy the home that Christ had prepared for him with His Father.

Maria is another who has discovered the power of the God’s love in the house of prayer.  Maria is married with 3 children.  Her husband is an alcoholic and a violent man. Many times in his rage he has physically abused Maria, and even thrown her out of the house and onto the street.  But she has refused to stop loving and forgiving him.  She has found her strength in the house of prayer, an invisible but very real spiritual house where Christ awaits her to love her, heal her and give her strength to carry on. Like David, Maria meets with Christ 7 times a day in his house of prayer (Psalm 119:164), even when sometimes she has been kicked out of her own house.  She knows that her true home, the house of prayer,  is always there for her wherever she is. Christ’s love in Maria has been an example for her church and her community, and finally for her husband.  Just recently her husband has begun changing, impacted by Christ’s love in Maria, he is now accompanying her to church.  He has seen the power of God’s love in her, despite all that he has done to hurt her. Maria believes and lives the truth that God’s love always forgives, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres – that His love never fails (1 Corinthians 13: 7,8). Prayer has shown her that. She knew that God’s love would break through even the hardest heart. And it has.
